While Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has continued to stray away from going after former President Donald Trump, a new super PAC backing the Republican governor is doing so on his behalf.

Even though DeSantis has yet to announce his 2024 campaign for the presidency, Trump has continuously taken shots at DeSantis, as many consider him to be his main challenger. Despite constant nicknames and Trump’s criticisms of his job as governor of Florida, DeSantis has refrained from speaking negatively about his possible Republican opponent.

However, the new ad released on Sunday takes aim at Trump on behalf of the Republican favorite.

“Donald Trump is being attacked by a Democrat prosecutor in New York,” the narrator in the ad says. “So why is he spending millions attacking the Republican governor of Florida? Trump’s stealing pages from the Biden-Pelosi playbook.”

The ad discusses Trump’s recent attacks on DeSantis’s former stance on Social Security. In 2013, while serving as a member of the U.S. House, DeSantis had voted to raise the Social Security and Medicare qualifying age to 70, but has since said Republicans should not change the programs.

The super PAC ad goes on to show clips of Trump where he says he would consider cutting entitlements “at some point.”

“At some point, they will be,” Trump said during an interview in 2020. “At the right time, we will take a look at that.”

At the end of the ad, the narrator says that Trump should focus on fighting Democrats instead of DeSantis, asking, “What happened to Donald Trump?”

DeSantis was asked during an interview with Piers Morgan what he thought of Trump’s nicknames and insults. In lieu of responding to Trump, the Floridian instead said that he “kind of” likes the nicknames, which have included “Meatball Ron,” “Ron DeSanctimonious,” and “Ron DisHonest.”

“I mean, you can call me whatever you want, just as long as you also call me a winner, because that’s what we’ve been able to do in Florida, is put a lot of points on the board and really take this state to the next level,” DeSantis said.

The Florida Gov. is expected to make a decision soon on whether or not he will run for the 2024 Republican nominee. Those close to him have said he will make his decision after the Florida Legislative session comes to an end in May.
