The National Rifle Association (NRA) is looking to move its headquarters and North Texas could be the new location, but some opponents of the move have created a petition saying it's not welcome here.
For 30 years, the NRA has been headquartered in Virginia but has recently suggested a possible move to Texas. Early speculation had Richardson as a possible location.
But Partners Real Estate Senior VP Steve Triolet, a North Texas commercial real estate expert, thinks there's been a change of heart.
“They’ve been looking at Texas since at least 2021. They kind of pulled back and then started looking again this year,” Triolet told NBC 5. “They looked at Richardson and several other northern suburbs and now it seems like their focus is on Las Colinas/Freeport area is on their shortlist. They’re in negotiations to take a whole building in that area which would be roughly about 300,000 square feet.”
Triolet calls Las Colinas a prime target for companies where their executives need to travel, largely because of its proximity to DFW International Airport.
While the NRA says Texas is home to more of its members than any other state there are plenty of Texans who opposed the assocation's agenda. One of the movers behind the anti-NRA petition is Collin County resident Almas Muscatwalla.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea for them to be here. I don’t think it’s going to do anything good for our community" Almas told NBC 5. “If I was given a choice, I would say no NRA in Texas."
