A pair of big rig drivers took road rage to a new level when they engaged in a highway shootout in Florida that was caught on video.
The incident unfolded on March 3 near Ocala, about 80 miles northwest of Orlando.
According to the Marion County Sheriff's Office, the semi-trucks were heading southbound on I-75 when one of the drivers, 43-year-old Dylan Belleastin of Virginia, threw a water bottle at the other truck.
The second driver, described by police as the victim, "pulled over to confront Belleastin but decided against it and drove away."
Belleastin then followed the truck and eventually pulled alongside him again, at which time he fired several shots at the cab, police said. The victim told police he decelerated in an attempt to avoid being struck before returning fire toward Belleastin "out of fear for his own life."
Belleastin drove to a Love's Travel Stop off the freeway but after a short time, he drove away and continued southbound on I-75.
After obtaining obtained that was used to identify Belleastin, deputies received dash camera footage from inside his semi-truck cab.
"The footage clearly depicted him shooting at the victim at two separate times," the sheriff's office said. "Belleastin also retrieved a second handgun and pointed it at the victim without firing."
Three days later and with the assistance of U.S. Marshal Service agents, deputies located Belleastin about 7 miles away from the truck stop. He was placed under arrested and taken to the Marion County Jail, where he remains without bond.
Belleastin is facing charges including shooting a missile into a vehicle, aggravated assault, criminal mischief, and displaying a firearm during the commission of a felony.
Police did not mention what caused Belleastin to allegedly throw a water bottle at the other truck.
No injuries were reported.
