Police seek smiling suspect who tried to firebomb home on Halloween night [VIDEO]

DETROIT (WWJ) -- A suspect was caught on camera with a big grin on his face as he committed a crime that could have caused injury, or even death, in Detroit.

The Detroit Police Department is seeking tips from the public to identify a man wanted in an attempted arson on Halloween night.

At around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, police said the suspect approached a home in the 18900 block of Mark Twain, near 7 Mile Rd. and the Lodge Freeway.

As seen on surveillance video released by police, the man approached on foot threw a flaming object at the house, before running away.

Thankfully, no one was injured, police said.

The object — which police identified as a bottle filled with an accelerant and a cloth, or Molotov cocktail — came crashing through a front window. Investigates said the suspect returned to the home two more times, before he fled the area on foot, headed south.

The suspect is described 6’0'' tall and around 250 lbs. He was last seen wearing all gray clothing, and black and white Nike shoes.

As police continue to search for the suspect, anyone recognizes him or who has any information about this crime is asked to call the DPD's Arson Unit at 313-596-2940 or Crimes Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up (1-800-773-2587).

As always, those who call the Crime Stoppers line will remain 100% anonymous, and will not be required to speak to police.
