As a number of different prosecutors across the country weigh potential indictments against Donald Trump, the former President could be required to take the stand in at least one case next month, but as a witness rather than a defendant.

Attorneys for five leaders of the white supremacist organization known as the Proud Boys have revealed they plan to subpoena Trump for testimony in their clients’ defense against charges of seditious conspiracy.

The indictments stem from actions taken during the violence at the Capitol on January 6, 2021, when an angry mob stormed the building as Congress was about the business of certifying the 2020 Presidential election results, as well as what allegedly happened in the planning stages of that uprising.

If Trump does take the stand in the trial, it would turn the proceedings into a massive media event surrounding such historic testimony.

The lawyers for the Proud Boys members said they would look to the Department of Justice for help in serving Trump the subpoena.

Trump has been traveling the country to drum up support as he seeks a return to the White House. So far, his campaign has not commented publicly on the potential subpoena.
