In the wake of the Taliban’s overthrow of Afghanistan’s government over the weekend, the Republican National Committee silently deleted a page from its website.

The page in question had touted what former President Donald Trump had referred to as a “historic peace agreement” with the group whose troubling ties to terrorism had resulted in their ouster from the control of the country two decades ago.

The page, which once resided at GOP.com, now returns a 404 error but can still be accessed on sites that archive webpages.

“President Trump has continued to take the lead in peace talks as he signed a historic peace agreement with the Taliban in Afghanistan, which would end America’s longest-running war,” read the article before it was removed.

As for the reasoning for the removal, an RNC spokesperson called it a “routine update to the website” in a response to the Washington Post.
