South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham pushed back against students at Notre Dame on behalf of restaurant chain Chick-fil-A, vowing Wednesday on Twitter to “go to war” to defend the company’s principles.

The students in South Bend, Ind., are entreating the university to nix a plan to put a Chik-fil-A location on campus. The students have circulated a petition and sent a letter to the editor of the campus newspaper that cited concerns over the ethics of the restaurant chain’s ownership.

Chik-fil-A has drawn criticism in the past over donations to conservative groups that look to inhibit the rights of the LGBTQ+ community, donations that were made by both Chik-fil-A CEO Dan Cathy and the company itself.

While the company has publicly pledged to no longer give money to those groups, the opposition is unswayed.

All of this led Sen. Graham to enter the fray via his official Twitter account with a pair of tweets.

Graham's strong words of support were met with a mixed reaction on Twitter.
