A man was arrested on Saturday in Glendale, Arizona after stabbing a woman nearly 50 times in a parking lot, according to AZ Central.

The suspect, 31-year-old Joel Andrew Wier, had to be chased on foot and tackled by Glendale police after the use of a stun gun and pepper spray were not enough to take him down.

When Glendale police officers arrived at the scene, they found the woman bleeding from her head, neck, and shoulders in the Pull N Save parking lot.

They also found a screwdriver with blood and a folded knife on the ground.

A unidentified woman's mother had driven Wier and her daughter to the auto parts store to get a part for their van, according to court documents obtained by AZ Central. The mother reportedly told Wier to go help her daughter after she had been in the store for a long time.

A customer notified store employees about a man beating up a woman in the parking lot, and the employees went out and held him to the van while waiting for police to arrive.

Wier repeatedly said that he didn't do anything and was described as "looking out of it and rambling nonsense," according to court documents.

The woman was taken to a hospital for surgery on her life-threatening injuries, and was eventually stabilized, but remained in threating condition, according to police.

Wier is facing five charges, including two counts of aggravated assault, attempted second-degree murder, attempted aggravated assault with serious physical injury, and resisting arrest. His bond has been set at $500,000.
