A 16-year-old Florida boy has been taken into custody after he allegedly shot and killed his 16-year-old friend while "play fighting."

The teenager is charged with manslaughter and violation of probation in connection with the death of Jacques Ford, according to the Clearwater Police Department.

The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon at an apartment complex in Clearwater, just west of Tampa, where the suspect lives, police said.

Witness statements indicate that the two teens were horsing around when the suspect picked up a gun – which "went off during the physical exchange" and struck Ford, according to police.

Ford died after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

The teen's arrest was announced on Thursday. Police said he may face additional charges once the investigation is complete.

It's not clear whether the suspect is charged as a juvenile or an adult.
