Teasing a cat with a laser became a dangerous game this week when a 19-year-old Wisconsin woman shot her friend.
Authorities said Jashanti Pleasant, the Kenosha woman, accidentally fired a handgun while she was using its laser sight to play with a cat Tuesday, according to Fox 6 News.

When police arrived at the Kenosha apartment complex where the shooting occurred, they found the friend, 21-year-old James Daniels “bleeding from a single bullet hole” in his leg. A witness told authorities that Daniels had placed the handgun on a dresser and that Pleasant picked it up after drinking “several shots of alcohol within an hour.”
Once Pleasant picked up the gun, she turned on its laser sight and attempted to get a cat to chase the beam of light. After the witness heard the gun go off, Daniels went into another room to stop the bleeding.
In a statement Pleasant provided to police, she said the gun "accidentally went off" and said she apologized to Daniels, who told her "it was OK."
Authorities found that the gun was loaded with one round in the chamber and six in the magazine. According to law enforcement, the gun belonged to Daniels, who at the time of the accident was out on bond for a 2020 case where he was charged for his role in an incident where shots were fired into a home, and was prohibited from having weapons.
While she is now out of custody on a special bond, Pleasant faces a single charge of injury by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon and is expected to appear in court in two weeks.
