TIME Magazine has revealed the list of candidates who are contenders for this year's "Person of the Year."

Since 1927, the magazine has awarded the title to the individual, group, or concept that had "the most influence on the world throughout the previous 12 months" and that "most shaped the headlines, for good or ill."

In 2022, TIME's Person of the Year was Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the "spirit of Ukraine." In 2021 the designation was given to Tesla CEO and SpaceX founder Elon Musk.

This year, nine candidates are in the running. They include:

Hollywood strikers -- screenwriters and actors went on strike, putting a pause on filming and creating shows and movies throughout the year.

Chinese President Xi Jinping -- one of China's "most powerful modern leaders," according to TIME.

Taylor Swift -- with one of the most successful concert films in history and what's likely to be the highest-grossing global tour of all time, the Grammy-award winner is having an epic year.

Sam Altman -- CEO of OpenAI, the company behind the groundbreaking ChatGPT.

Trump Prosecutors -- more than 90 counts have been brought against Donald Trump, the first president to be indicted in history, in Florida, Georgia, New York and Washington, D.C.

Barbie -- the first-ever live-action Barbie movie was not only the highest-grossing film of the year, it thrust the doll and all her pink merchandise back into the spotlight

Russian President Vladimir Putin -- the leader of Russia since 1999, he's continued to wage war in Ukraine for two years since the invasion in Feb. 2022.

King Charles III -- waiting for his turn at the throne since 1969, Charles finally took the position following the death of his mother, Queen Elizabeth, at age 96.

Jerome Powell - Chairman of the Federal Reserve who has played a "key role" managing the country's high inflation without causing a recession, per the magazine.

The Person of the Year will be announced on Wednesday morning.
