While former President Donald Trump – the current GOP frontrunner for the 2024 presidential election – has publicly maintained that he’s confident he won’t be headed to jail, he has secretly been concerned about what he might wear if sent to prison.

Trump is now facing 91 charges spread over four indictments, including a number of felony counts. He was mostly recently indicted in Fulton County, Ga., where he was briefly booked into prison and had a mugshot taken.

Some experts believe there is a good chance Trump could be sentenced to prison time. However, there would be challenges, including his entitlement to Secret Service protection.

According to a Wednesday report in Rolling Stone, Trump has asked advisors if he’ll have to wear “one of those jumpsuits” if he does get time. Shortly after he was booked in Fulton County, it was revealed that he listed his weight as 215 pounds. People all over the internet were incredulous at the figure, Audacy reported.

“Privately, three sources familiar with his comments say, he’s been asking lawyers and other people close to him what a prison sentence would look like for a former American president,” said Rolling Stone.

What would Trump wear in prison?

While shows like Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black” have popularized the idea that U.S. prisoners wear orange jumpsuits, that isn’t always the case.

Slate reported in 2010 that some prisoners began wearing orange jumpsuits in the 1970s, and then usually only for special detention cases and transport. Prior to that, many prisons had black-and-white striped uniforms, though New York abolished stripes in 1904.

As of 2010, male prisoners in California wore denim uniforms and federal prisoners at a maximum-security prison in Florence, Colo., issued khaki trousers and shirts. Jen Shah from “Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” was recently spotted wearing a khaki prison uniform at FPC Bryan in Texas, according to Page Six. In New York, orange jumpsuits were banned as of 2010, said Slate.

“It issues uniforms that are ‘hunter green,’ and lets them wear their own T-shirts, as long as they’re not blue (the color of prison-guard uniforms), black (too hard to see), gray (other officials wear it), or orange (the color worn by the Correctional Emergency Response Team, or riot control),” said the outlet.

Saginaw county jail in Michigan also banned orange uniforms because “Orange is the New Black” made them seem too “cool,” and could be confused with civilians wearing them, per The Guardian in 2014. At that time, the prison brought back black-and-white stripes.

News On 6 reported in 2010 that Greer County Sheriff Devin Huckabay decided to put county jail inmates in hot pink jumpsuits. He said the male inmates did not like wearing them and that they served as incentive to not commit crimes. Hot pink uniforms have also been given to prisoners in Georgia, according to the Daily Mail.

So, what will Trump wear if he goes to prison? That all depends on what charges he might be found guilty of and what indictment they are from.
