Donald Trump logged off his long and winding campaign trail for the presidency Monday night at 2 a.m. in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
And in his final event before Election Day, Trump offered up a smorgasbord of his greatest hits, including a two-hour speech, members of his family on stage, voter fraud claims, attacks on 'cheater' Nancy Pelosi, the former House speaker who he termed 'a word that starts with a b, but I won’t say it.' He also ruminated on 'liar' Hillary Clinton, and 'low IQ radical left lunatic' Vice President Kamala Harris.
Plus, he had some moments that had people scratching their heads -- including the fact he kept talking well after much of the audience had left the facility.
"Think of it: This is the last one," Trump noted. "This is my last rally, can you believe it?" Trump had his sons Eric and Donald Trump Jr there with him and noted at one point that daughter Ivanka was watching it from home.
He called them on stage at 1:45 a.m, at which point, Daily Mail noted "there were plenty of empty seats in the upper decks."
"Good morning. Who else could have this many people at 2 a.m.? Only Donald Trump," Eric Trump said on stage. Trying to squeeze in as many appearances as he could in the final rush to Election Day, Trump didn't begin speaking until midnight, a delay of nearly two hours due to the previous event running into overtime. It was his fourth rally of the day.
"This has been an incredible journey. It’s very sad in a way," Trump said at one point, and he spoke about how God saved him from two assassination attempts.
"I hope that God did put me here to really save this country," Trump said.
Michigan is one of the seven key states that analysts believe will swing the election to either Harris or Trump, along with Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin and Arizona.
The New York Times and many others noted that in the final day of rallies, Harris' message was upbeat and optimistic and Trump's was dark and brooding. But in a change, the former president did not project in his final rally the same great confidence in victory that he usually does.
“The ball’s in our hand. All we have to do is get out the vote tomorrow... In other words, to make you feel a little guilty, we would only have you to blame,” Trump joked to the crowd in the wee hours.
Meanwhile, “America is ready for a fresh start,” Harris said to supporters in Pennsylvania on Monday, “where we see our fellow Americans not as an enemy but as a neighbor.”
