Starting today, if you're on a plane, bus, subway or train you now must wear a protective mask, and you have to keep it on during the entire trip.
Those are the new rules, under a order announced Jan. 21 by President Joe Biden. It just went into effect late Monday night.
Although airlines already require masks – and have banned more than 2,000 passengers for refusing to wear one. Flight attendant unions have said this federal rule will make it easier for crews to enforce the requirement.
TSA will require individuals to wear a mask at TSA airport screening checkpoints and throughout the commercial and public transportation systems. This requirement will remain effective until May 11, 2021.
The CDC said some face coverings aren't good enough to comply with the rule. The don't-travel list includes face shields, bandanas, masks with exhalation valves and masks that are too big or otherwise don't fit properly.
The CDC requested the mask mandate insisting it is necessary to slow the spread of the coronavirus.
