Police in Nebraska made a whopper of a drug bust when they stopped a car hauler and discovered 45 pounds of methamphetamine in an SUV.
The incident happened in Seward, about 25 miles west of Lincoln, on December 17 but was just announced in a news release on Tuesday.
According to the Seward County Sheriff's Office, deputies from the Criminal Investigative Task Force stopped a car hauler tractor-trailer that was loaded with eight vehicles and traveling eastbound on I-80 near the Seward exit.
"Deputies became suspicious of a 2021 Infiniti SUV located on the car hauler," police said in a statement. "The SUV was unloaded for further inspection and was found to be stolen out of California. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located contraband concealed inside the SUV."
Police said five pounds of methamphetamine was hidden in the speaker compartment and another 40 pounds of meth was found in the spare tire.
The street value of the drugs is approximately $315,000, according to police.
The incident remains under investigation by the sheriff's department in cooperation with federal agencies.
