Comedian Jim Breuer, 55, known for his years on “Saturday Night Live,” his role in the 1998 film “Half Baked” as well as radio and podcasts, recently shared advice based on his experience dealing with his wife’s terminal cancer diagnosis.
“Start looking at the beauty right in front of you with yourself,” he said in a video uploaded to YouTube of his “Breuniverse” podcast earlier this month.
Breuer – who has been critical of COVID-19 vaccine mandates – previously discussed his wife Dee’s cancer diagnosis on the Jim Norton & Sam Roberts show in 2017. She had been given a terminal diagnosis that February after spots were found on her lung.
“She was diagnosed with terminal, it metastasized, the cancer metastasized to her liver, lung, bone,” Breuer said at the time. “That was a heavy couple of months, trying to figure that out.”
However, he said that his wife’s faith and perspective on life helped them make it through as she participated in a drug trial that his childhood friend helped steer them to. Dee, mother of Breuer’s three daughters and wife of 29 years, is a born-again believer, her husband said during his recent podcast episode.
“We never were a doom and gloom family,” he told Norton in 2017.
“She looks hot, she feels hot.”
At the time, she didn’t want to tell anyone, even Breuer himself and her mother. He said they got through it by cracking jokes and staying positive.
While doctors thought Dee Breuer might only survive four years after receiving the diagnosis, she has made it five years. Breuer still feels lucky, and he said he is not mad about the experience.
“You know how many people never had the relationship I had and still have?” he told a friend. “Do you know how many incredible, life-saving, emotional and deeply saving moments I’ve had with my wife Dee?”
Breuer said that his wife is “powerful in her faith.” He is also motivated by faith and started off the recent podcast by saying he thinks many people are having trouble with “morality and spirituality.”
“I will never be angry with God,” he said. “I can’t believe the beauty that surrounds me, I can’t believe the beauty that’s being given to me.”
