White House announces ‘ending the COVID-19 pandemic’ was an accomplishment in Trump's first term

WASHINGTON (KMOX) - The Trump administration seems to have declared victory over the coronavirus pandemic as it listed “ending the COVID-19 pandemic” as one of the top accomplishments in the president's first term.

The White House’s Office of Science and Technology (OSTP) released a statement of its "wins that changed the world over the past four years."


It highlighted five items as "significant investments, accomplishments, policies, and other actions undertaken by President Trump to advance science and technology."

- Ending the COVID-19 pandemic
- Strengthening American leadership in industries of the future
- Understanding our planet
- Protecting our research enterprise
- Returning to space exploration

“From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic the Trump Administration has taken decisive actions to engage scientists and health professionals in academia, industry, and government to understand, treat and defeat the disease," the OSTP release states.

Most U.S. states are currently seeing a rise in COVID-19 cases with more than 71,000 people a day testing positive on average, which is up from 51,000 two weeks ago.

Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases, says a vaccine in the U.S. likely won't be ready for mass distribution until "several months into 2021."
