NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- Actor Willie Garson, who famously played Carrie Bradshaw's BFF Stanford Blatch on 'Sex and the City,' has died, his son announced on Instagram on Tuesday. He was 57.

"I love you so much papa," his son Nathen, also an actor, wrote on Instagram. "Rest In Peace and I’m so glad you got to share all your adventures with me and were able to accomplish so much ... You always were the toughest and funniest and smartest person I’ve known. I’m glad you shared you’re love with me. I’ll never forget it or lose it."
TMZ reported that Garson, who was born in Highland Park, New Jersey, had been battling cancer for several years, but it was unknown if that was the cause of death.
Garson's actor friends took to social media to share their sorrow. "Our sweet pal #WillieGarson has passed on. Dear soul, rest easy," actor Rob Morrow tweeted.

"There are no words. I love you dear brother. We are fewer," actor and friend Titus Welliver tweeted.
Garson appeared in a variety of television shows and films throughout his career. He had reoccurring characters in "NYPD Blue," as Henry Coffield, and "Mr. Belvedere," as Carl. He also appeared in episodes of "Monk," "Boy Meets World," among other programs.
He also had parts in three Farrelly brothers comedies: "Kingpin," "There's Something About Mary" and "Fever Pitch."
