In what sounds like a dramatic scene out of a true crime thriller, a Washington woman escaped her would-be kidnapper by jumping from a moving vehicle.
The woman told police she was driving in Vancouver, Washington early Saturday morning when a man approached her vehicle and asked for some water.
The woman gave the man some water and let him in her car -- then things took a turn for the worse. According to the Clark County Sheriff's Office, the man pulled out a knife and "used the threat of violence to take control of the car."
The woman managed to escape by jumping out of the moving car, police said. She then ran to nearby houses and began knocking on doors for help.
Jamie Woods said he and his wife woke up to a distressed woman yelling and trying to get inside their home in Camas.
"She had told me that someone was trying to kill her and took her car, so I said OK and I walked off into the street with her to see if I could see anything," Woods told KOIN. "Right then and there, the car that she explained to me had turned the corner."
Woods called 911 and police responded to the scene. Deputies searched the area and quickly located the woman's vehicle, but the suspect drove away. After a 10 minute chase, officers finally disabled the car and arrested the suspect.
The suspect refused to identify himself for several days. On Tuesday, he was named by police as 31-year-old Jeremy Alexksa. He's facing charges of kidnapping, robbery, reckless driving and attempt to elude.
