ST. LOUIS- Sen. Tammy Duckworth, a Illinois Senator, joined Total Information A.M. to discuss Alabama Sen. Tommy Tuberville efforts to block holding up hundreds of military nominations and promotion as a way to change the Pentagon's abortion travel policy.
Duckworth, who served 22 years in the U.S. Army, says the holdup is hurting the U.S. especially on issues when it comes to national security.
"It jeopardizes our national security because these promotions are going to be the commanders of the branch," Duckworth explained, "We are about to not have Chief of Air Force, Chief of Army or Chief of Staff. When we have military officers who are in acting positions, those folks can't issues orders in an acting capacity."
The biggest military branch that has been hurt by Tuberville effort so far is the Marine Corps, who currently do not have a commandant leader at the moment, the first in over 150 years the Marine Corps is operating without one.
Duckworth says there has been a bipartisan effort to try to get Tuberville so many opportunities to end his holdup, a procedure many senators have done over the years, but there appears to be no end in sight at the moment.
"We've given him many opportunities," Duckworth said, "Iowa Senator (Joni) Ernst (R) had a similar piece of legislation (to Tuberville) we offered to vote on that. We've offered him so many options and he's declined them. We don't know what he wants at all other than he's holding up the military for the first time in 100 years."
