ST. LOUIS, Mo. - CBS Chief Washington Correspondent Major Garrett said he was 'very surprised' that the Hunter Biden plea deal fell through Wednesday.
Garrett joined 'The Show' on KMOX Thursday to discuss the plea deal and detailed to Chris Rongey and Amy Marxhors what the Washington media originally expected from the aftermath of the plea deal.
Washington said that the media originally thought that the Biden hearing for the plea deal would've been as relative smooth sailing and it could've ended as early as 11 a.m. EST, with Biden was expected to deliver a statement regarding the plea deal after the deal was made official and everything would've been resolved by noon EST.
However, the plea deal fell apart after a tumultuous three-hour hearing, with the judge questioning it details, eventually putting it on hold and it has left Hunter Biden defense team 'fuming.'
Garrett says a plea deal falling apart is 'extremely unusual' with Garrett putting blame on Biden's defense counsel and the prosecution for the misunderstanding between both sides.
"Hunter Biden's attorney believed and made it pretty clear that they thought one of the aspects of the deal(the diversion program for the gun charge) was a global agreement not to hold Hunter Biden accountable for any future charges, even though it was still an ongoing investigation," Garrett said, "The judge, quite correctly, ask the prosecution if they had same interpretation and they said no."
Garrett says that the plea deal falling through has put Biden in 'legally perilous place' more than he was pleaing too and it has heightened the political tension.
Biden team and the prosecution will now have two weeks to see if they can reach a new deal.
