JEFFERSON CITY, MO (KMOX) - Missouri has set a record for the number of registered voters.
According to Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, 4,287,812 Missourians have registered to vote in the November election. That's just over 64,000 more than the previous high set in 2016 (4,223,787) and nearly 75,000 more than were registered two years ago (4,213,092).
Ashcroft notes that the number could rise, as local election authorities process applications that were submitted prior to the Oct. 7 deadline.
Missourians have also requested more than 476,000 absentee ballots, which is thought to be a record high number. It's 172,000 more than were requested in 2016 (304,869) and 194,000 more than were requested in 2012 (282,594).
