St. Louis (KMOX) -- Senator Roy Blunt (R-Missouri) says it is too early to create a commission to investigate the January 6 breach of the U.S. Capitol.

Missouri's Senior Senator, who is not running for re-election in 2022, made the comments on Fox New Sunday.

"The one commission that we generally think did work was the 9/11 commission. I was part of putting that commission together.

"I think it was 14 months after 9/11 after all kinds of information was out there for that commission to look at before (it) got started. Believe me, it would be months before this commission could get started," Blunt said.

The Republican says investigations into the 400 or so people charged in the attack will bring out information that the Justice Department will not allow to be released to a commission.

When it comes to uncovering what was happening in the White House during the breach of the U.S. Capitol, Blunt says it will take a couple of years to find that out.
