WASHINGTON (KMOX) - Missouri's Sen. Josh Hawley is calling for the resignation of Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.

On Twitter, Hawley called the investigation into recently obtained emails from Fauci about the origin of COVID-19 "shocking."

"The time has come for Fauci to resign and for a full congressional investigation into the origins of #COVID19 - and into any and all efforts to prevent a full accounting," Hawley tweeted.

Hawley is also calling for a full investigation into the origins of COVID-19 to determine "the NIAD's involvement in funding research at the Wuhan Institute of Virology."

More than 3,000 pages of Fauci's emails from January to June 2020 were obtained by the Washington Post, Buzzfeed News and CNN through Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. They offer a glimpse into the level of concern and confusion in the US at the start of the pandemic.
