Hartzler tweeted "Women's Sports are for Women, not men pretending to be women" on her personal account, @VickyHartzlerMO. The tweet was referencing her new TV ad, as she's running for U.S. Senate this year.

The ad is about Lia Thomas, who is the No. 1 ranked swimmer in college women's swimming. She is aslo transgender woman.

"They suspended my Twitter account, simply for speaking the truth and speaking up for female athletes, it's ridiculous," Hartzler told our partner station 97.1 FM Talk. You can hear the full interview in the audio at the top of this page.

Twitter suspended the account for violating its policy on hateful conduct.

Twitter instructed Hartzler that her account would be re-activated if she deleted the tweet, and waited through a brief period before her account was fully re-activated.

"I am not taking the ad down," Hartzler told Cox.
