ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The 2023 season didn't have a lot of highlights for the St. Louis Cardinals, but Victor Scott II was one of those highlights.
Scott II had a breakout 2023 in the minors, becoming both an offensive and defensive threat Scott was also an elite defensive stud, and he was recognized Tuesday one as Scott was announced as a 2023 MiLB Gold Glove Winner, becoming the second Cardinals prospect to ever win a minor-league Gold Glove since it was introduced in 2011.
Scott II has been a quick riser in the Cardinals farm-system since being drafted out of West Virginia in the 2022 MLB Draft. While not a home-run threat, Scott has made up with his plate discipline, baserunning and defense. In 132 games across High A+ and Double A, Scott hit a respectable .286/.388/.417 slash line, hitting seven home runs and collecting 63 RBIs. However, it was on the base path where Scott was a absolute threat offensively stealing a ridiculous 94 bases this season.
Scott has continued that 2023 momentum in the Arizona Fall League, hitting .286/.388/.417 slash line for the Scottsdale Scorpions. Scott's .805 OPS was the fourth highest on the Scorpions this Fall League, and lead the team in stolen bases with 18.
With an ETA of 2025 according to MLB Pipeline, it be will unlikely that Scott will be playing at Busch Stadium anytime soon next season, but if Scott can keep his momentum from a breakout 2023 season, it should be an exciting experience for Cardinals fans to dream of seeing Scott catching fly balls and stealing bases at Busch Stadium in the future.
