ST. LOUIS (KMOX)- Cardinals Legend, and Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith joined Total Information A.M. Tuesday to discuss a wide among of topics.

Smith says it was special for him to be alongside the other Cardinals legends to honor Wainwright and his legendary Cardinals career.

"Sunday was very, very special for Wainwright," said Smith, "The fact that we were able to get Albert (Pujols)and Yadi(er Molina) back here and get those guys together was very special for all of us that are Cardinal fans."

Smith say that even though that Wainwright final year before retirement didn't go as well as Wainwright would've hoped, it was still a special year and to see him get win number 200.

"I think we all pull our hair out and bit our nails and all of that," said Smith, "When he won his 200th game, he pitched an outstanding game and I think it was very fitting the way that it ended for him."

Smith also discussed his upcoming annual gala to benefit the Gateway PGA Reach Foundation on Oct 15.

The gala will help raise money to build a nine- hole multi-recreational facility across the Herbert Hoover boys club and help inner-city kids learn and get exposed to golf.

Smith says that Albert Pujols will be a special guest for the gala and it will be extremely special to have him attend.

"I can't wait to be able to spend some time talking with Albert and when you have a player of his caliber to be able to, to sit down find out what makes 'The Machine' work," said Ozzie Smith, "We've had the good fortune of having some real great ones come here from Bo Jackson to Dr. J to Hank Aaron, the list just goes on and on of greats and Albert certainly continues that tradition."
