(KMOX) - Amazon announced on Thursday that it's opening two new facilities in Missouri to add to its more than $780 million investment into the state.

The two new AMXL facilities will be located in Joplin and Springfield, and will open in February and March respectively. Amazon says each facility will create hundreds of jobs that pay a staring wage of at least $15 per hour.

The facilities will specialize in handling heavy and bulky items.

The Joplin AMXL site will be located at 3002 South Prigmore and the Springfield site will be at 2960 North Martin Ave.

"We’re delighted to be continuing our investment and expansion of Amazon with Missouri with the addition of two new AMXL sites in Joplin and Springfield,” said Travis Autery, General Manager – Amazon. “The investment into the buildout of our network means we can deliver a greater selection of items to our customers. We’re proud to be a job creator in Missouri."

These new facilities add to Amazon's footprint in Missouri that includes a fulfillment center in St. Peters, a sortation center in Hazelwood, three delivery stations in Hazelwood and Kansas City, four Whole Foods Market locations, one Air Gateway and an Amazon 4-star store inside the Saint Louis Galleria mall.
