ST. LOUIS - Missouri is back in TV-production game after Missouri Gov. Mike Parson officially signed the Show Mo Act and the Entertainment Jobs Industry Act earlier this summer.

The law would reinstate a tax for certain expenses related to the production of TV and film projects. Missouri previously had a tax incentive for TV Production projects but have not had one since the previous one expired in 2013.

The last major film shot in Missouri was “Gone Girl” in 2013, according to lawmakers.

Explore St. Louis VP of Communications Cat Neville says both laws will be huge for the state.

"What exciting about this act is that it's a tax credit," said Neville on Total Information A.M., "They are incentivizing these production groups to come in and further invest beyond doing their production."

Neville explains the incentives are each 5% tax credit and that movie production can each credit from doing anything like filming half of their production in the state, giving positive messaging about of some of the landmarks in the state, filming 15% in rural areas of the state and so forth.

"They're really using this opportunity to not just attract people to Missouri, but also to bring attention and revenue to parts of the state," said Neville.

Both laws will go into effect in January 2024.
