Early Sunday morning, a 16-and 17-year-old were fatally shot while attending a party at a vacant house in Boone County, Missouri, local law enforcement officials shared.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office shared that deputies received a call of shots fired just before 1 a.m. on Sunday.
Authorities shared that dozens of people are believed to have been at the party when a “verbal altercation” broke out between two groups, leading to weapons being pulled and shots being fired.
Along with the two victims, at least four other teens between the ages of 16 and 19 sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the incident, the sheriff’s office shared.
No suspects have been arrested as of Sunday afternoon, though police are asking those with information to contact the sheriff’s office.
The shooting is now the 275 mass shooting of 2023, according to the Gun Violence Archive, which defines a mass shooting as having four or more deaths or injuries, not including the shooter.
The investigation into what caused the shooting and who is responsible remains ongoing.
