KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI (KMOX) - Kansas City Chiefs outside linebackers coach Britt Reid faces an impaired driving investigation after a crash Thursday night that injured two small children, one critically. Court documents indicate responding officers found a moderate odor of alcohol and blood-shot eyes for the son of head coach Andy Reid. Police say he admitted he had been drinking.

The accident happened on Interstate 435 near Stadium Drive, not far from Arrowhead Stadium. A car had run out of gas and the driver called a relative. The second car was on scene when it's reported Reid was driving in his pickup and struck one vehicle, sending into the other. Two small children, ages 4 and 5, in the back seat of the responding car were hurt. The 5-year-old suffered life-threatening injuries. Reid was also injured, but not seriously. None of the three adults in the two struck vehicles were hurt.

The Chiefs released a statement about the crash: "The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”

In 2008, Britt Reid pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance after crashing into shopping carts in a Pennsylvania sporting goods store. He was in jail on a road rage charge when he entered the plea.

The Kansas City Chiefs play the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday in the Super Bowl in Florida.
