Trump Org sues NYC for terminating golf course contract

The Trump Organization has hit New York with a lawsuit claiming the city wrongfully terminated its contract to operate a golf course in the Bronx, according to a new report.

New York City terminated its contracts with former President Donald Trump’s company following the Jan. 6 siege at the Capitol building in Washington, D.C.

On Monday, the Trump Organization sued the city for ending its contract to operate the Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx, with a company official maintaining the five boroughs had “no right to terminate our contract,” ABC News reported.

“Mayor [Bill] de Blasio’s actions are purely politically motivated, have no legal merit, and are yet another example of the mayor’s efforts to advance his own partisan agenda and interfere with free enterprise,” the official told the outlet.

De Blasio announced the decision on Jan. 13, saying the city’s legal team had “done an assessment, and the contracts make very clear if a company and the leadership of that company is engaged in criminal activity, we have the right to sever the contract.”

“Inciting an insurrection — let’s be clear, I’m going to say these words again — inciting an insurrection against the United States government clearly constitutes criminal activity,” he added.

In addition to terminating the Trump Organization’s contract to operate the golf course, the city also ended its operating contracts for two ice skating rinks in Central Park, as well as the Central Park Carousel.

A spokesman for the city’s Law Department on Monday doubled down on de Blasio’s January remarks.

“The actions of Mr. Trump to incite a deadly riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6 caused a breach of the Ferry Point contract by eliminating options for hosting championship events, and we will vigorously defend the City’s decision to terminate the contract,” he told ABC News.
