Missouri and Illinois are among more than a dozen states bracing for violent thunderstorms Friday.
AccuWeather meteorologists have been warning of the possibility of damaging winds, heavy downpours, hail, and the possibility of tornadoes.
AccuWeather says the area highlighted by forecasters is a massive swath of the country that extends from Texas to Alabama in the South to areas farther north such as Wisconsin and Michigan.
And these may be fast storms. Forecasters predict the forward speed could reach 60 miles per hour. That, they say, means "there may be little time to take shelter."
