Snow, freezing rain expected in St. Louis area Monday

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A mix of freezing rain and snow is expected to hit the greater St. Louis area on Monday afternoon and it could make the roads slick in some areas.

There will be periods of light snow or flurries, mixing with some freezing drizzle this afternoon into tonight.

According to the National Weather Service, if you're north of Interstate 70 you can expect it to be more snow-like precipitation, while those south of I-70 should expect more freezing rain.

As of 1 p.m. there were reports of snow, sleet and freezing rain "coming in from south of I-70 in Rolla, Jefferson City, Farmington, and south St. Louis."

Temperatures will reach into the teens in the area tonight and AccuWeather reports there could be a coating of snow and ice up to 2 inches on the roads.

AccuWeather expects more periods of snow, mixed with sleet and freezing drizzle tomorrow night into Wednesday.
