When you think of volcanoes, you most likely don’t think of France. Or of sleeping somewhere surrounded by them.

A new Airbnb offering could change your mind.

This month, host Kilian Jornet listed a one-bedroom, one-bath tiny house in heart of in the heart of the Chaîne des Puys volcanic field on Airbnb, a site that allows hosts to rent their homes out to travelers. According to the Airbnb description, the field is part of the Chaîne des Puys-Limagne fault tectonic arena and the house is situated amid the field in the commune of Volvic in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region in the center of France.

“It is a unique geological site, created in the aftermath of the formation of the Alps 35 million years ago,” said the page. “This unique landscape recently joined UNESCO’s World Heritage list and is one of the rare tectonic World Heritage sites in the world.”

The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History explained that the field is “prominent in the history of volcanology,” and its last eruption occurred in 4040 B.C. It has 80 large monogenetic volcanoes.

Volvic, a company that sells mineral water, sources its product from the region. Jornet, an avid trail runner and ski mountaineer, is a brand ambassador for the company and has partnered with it to offer guests an opportunity to stay in the house.

Guests who secure the one-night stays at the Chaîne des Puys home can look out over the field from its bedroom, which has panoramic views thanks to a floor-to-ceiling retractable window.

A stay in the LumiPod (a circular prefab structure, according to Dwell) also includes: a virtual welcome call from Jornet, a guided tour from the on-site team to learn about the surrounding park, a locally sourced dinner by two Michelin star chef Adrien Descouls, a private morning yoga session with views of the sun rising over the volcano peaks, a volcanic hike designed by Jornet and a hot air balloon ride, pending weather conditions.

“Interested guests should note that booking rules are in strict adherence with local COVID-19 guidelines,” said the listing. “Those who request to book must be able to comply with their country of resident international travel and COVID-related safety rules and regulations and share the same household to minimize risk.”

Airbnb also requires homes to be sanitized through an enhanced five-step cleaning process.

Only two adult guests will be able to enjoy the Volvic house for a one-night getaway from Saturday, Sept. 18 to Sunday, Sept. 19. Booking opens at 9 a.m. CEST July 19 and the listing price is $11 for the night. Guests must find their own transportation to Volvic.
