The city of Wichita officially announced a notice of vacancy for council member in District III. This comes after former Council member James Clendenin resigned last month.
The deadline for candidate petitions to be filed with the city clerk is 5 p.m. Tuesday, January 26. The city also set a 5 p.m. deadline on January 29 for original signatures on petitions.
The District III advisory board will then hold a public forum to screen potential candidates. The DAB will then send a list of no more than 5 names to the city council.
In other council news, the city approved a supplemental design agreement for the Hess Pump Station site to make valve replacements and repairs.
The city performed an assessment on 18 of the 21 valves. 11 were inoperable, 6 had questionable seals and 1 would not fully close. At least 12 of the valves will need to be replaced prior to connecting to the Northwest Wichita water treatment plant currently under construction.
The city says the work will cost $500 thousand, which was approved by the council back in April 2020.
