District 3 Councilmember James Clendenin announced his resignation from the Wichita City Council, effective December 31. Clendenin got emotional during his roughly five-minute speech, in which he told fellow council members that he had come to the decision after discussions with friends and other colleagues.

Clendenin spent nearly 10 years on the council.

Last month, Sedgwick County DA Marc Bennett filed court papers asking for Clendenin's ouster from the council after an investigation into Clendenin's role in a political attack ad against then Mayoral candidate Brandon Whipple in 2019.

There's no word on how or when his spot on the council will be filled.
