Preliminary estimates reported by the Kansas Department of Labor and the Bureau of Labor Statistics show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 7.2 percent in July. This was a decrease from 7.5 percent in June and an increase from 3.1 percent in July 2019. Seasonally adjusted job estimates indicate total Kansas nonfarm jobs increased by 10,000 from June. Private sector jobs ... a subset of total nonfarm jobs ... increased by 6,800 from the previous month, while government increased by 3,200.
The Wichita area jobless rate was 10.9 percent in July ... up from 10.8 percent in June. The Wichita area includes Sedgwick, Sumner, Kingman, Harvey, and Butler Counties.
