Kansas, with a total population of more than 2.9 million people, has recorded more than 3,300 positive cases of the virus, up 5% from Sunday.
Among those tested in the state, 88% have tested negative for the coronavirus, and 12% positive; that rate has remained the same for several days.
The state says 20% of cases have required hospitalization, as that rate has remained the same; 0.9% of Kansas residents have been tested.
There have been nearly 500 hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Kansas, up 2% from Sunday; that's a lower rate than from last week. Among those hospitalized in Kansas with the virus, 24% have resulted in death; that rate has remained steady.
The state reports two more patients have died from the virus, for a total of 120 deaths in the state. Among the positive cases in Kansas, 3.6% have resulted in death; that percentage is down a bit from last week's numbers.
Sedgwick County is reporting 339 positive cases, only adding one case since Sunday. There have been six COVID-19 deaths in Sedgwick County; among the cases in Sedgwick County, 1.8% have resulted in death.
30% of the state's positive cases are coming from Johnson and Wyandotte counties in northeast Kansas.
Fewer than 12% of the state's positive cases have been recorded in Sedgwick County and its surrounding counties; that rate is down more than 1% from last week.
The highest number of cases and the illness onset numbers peaked in Sedgwick County 12 days ago, on April 15th.
There have been 73 patients hospitalized in Sedgwick County with COVID-19, accounting for 22% of positive cases (a rate increase of 1%). The other 78% of cases have not required hospitalizations.
The age range with the highest percentage of hospitalizations (22.5%) are those between the ages of 55-64.
The age range with the most positive cases in Kansas (24%) are those between the ages of 20-34. However, in that age range, fewer than 4% of cases require hospitalization.
The average age for COVID-19 hospitalizations in Kansas is 64.
