Wichita Police are advising business and homeowners to be aware of a rise in the theft of catalytic converters.

There has been an increase of over $1,000,000 in losses.  In 2019 there were 191 reported thefts, compared to just over 500 reports, so far this year.

Officer Kevin Wheeler says Crime Stoppers is now offering $1,000 rewards for information leading to the felony arrest of those involved in the theft of stolen catalytic converters, and $100 rewards for misdemeanor arrests.

"We're asking for help developing strong leads on the people committing these crimes," said Officer Wheeler.
