Sedgwick County Commissioners approved a motion to request a change in the public health order issued by Health Officer Dr. Garold Minns.
Commissioner Michael O'Donnell asked that the curfew for bars, restaurants and other businesses that serve alcohol for on-site consumption be amended from 11 p.m. to Midnight.
There has been recent improvement in the county's COVID-19 cases. The 2-week average positivity rate has dropped to just under 6 percent and local hospitals report fewer COVID-19 patients in their care, including those in ICU.
O'Donnell said Dr. Minns has been a great partner in dealing with the crisis.
Chairman Pete Meitzner said the move was a positive first step for local businesses.
There's no word on if and when Dr. Minns would consider this request.
