The Sedgwick County Commission voted 4-1 to approve a $300 bonus to select county employees.

It will not go to elected or appointed public officials or to those in the county manager's office.

The bonus comes from a 1.25 percent pay increase that was previously in the 2020 budget for county employees until COVID-19 related cuts were enacted earlier this year. The total cost of the bonus will be around $901 thousand.

Commissioner David Dennis, who was the lone no vote on the measure, says with deficit spending looming next year he couldn't support it.

The county has enacted furloughs, hiring freezes and will freeze wages in 2021 in attempt to save money.
