It had been nearly a week, but Wichitans felt not one, not two but 5 earthquakes in the span of an hour and 40 minutes Saturday.

That was followed by two additional quakes later in the day and two early Sunday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the first quake, a magnitude 2.6, shook east Wichita at 11:42 a.m. and was centered about a block north of Central and Rock.

The strongest quake of the day hit at 12:48 p.m. It measured M3.5 and was centered northeast of 13th and Webb.

Kansas Geological Survey Senior Scientist Rick Miller tells our news partners at KSN-TV that these quakes are not out of the ordinary. “You can have several earthquakes that can occur in the period of a week or two then nothing for a hundred years," he said.

These earthquakes Saturday and early Sunday make it 18 since Thanksgiving.
