Teen arrested, gun recovered at Wichita Heights High School

Wichita Police arrested a 15-year-old male for criminal possession of a firearm by a juvenile and possession of a firearm on school grounds. Tuesday morning, the WPD School Resource Officer at Heights High School was contacted by school staff regarding an anonymous tip received of the 15-year-old male having a gun at the school. The USD 259 security personnel and SRO followed up on the tip, which led to the arrest.  A handgun was also recovered.  There were no threats made to any students, no threats of violence on school grounds, and no disruptions to the school.  Furthermore, no one was injured. The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
