The Linwood Branch Library in Wichita will have a new home later this year.
The Wichita City Council approved a building lease at the northeast corner of the WSU-Tech South campus complex, in the 4100 block of east Harry. The new location will have considerably more space and will be more visible from the street.
Council member James Clendenin said the new library location will be a "game changer" in helping bridge an information gap that exists in the community.
The library plans to move to the new space later this year after renovations are completed. The annual cost of the lease is just over $49 thousand.
The council also approved a $6.2 million offer to acquire property in the 2100 block of north Hoover Road for the new Northwest Wichita Water Facility that's under construction. The property owner turned down the city's original $5.4 million offer. The council approved the new deal 6-1, with Mayor Brandon Whipple casting the lone no vote.
The council approved 3 sidewalk projects within the city, at a cost of $450 thousand. The new sidewalks and wheelchair ramps will be on Arkansas from 41st to 46th Street North, along and to the east of 37th Street North and Ridge, and at the southwest corner of McCormick and Osage.
