Police have arrested a 40-year-old Wichita man on a charge of attempted murder, stemming from a shooting investigation earlier this month.

On the evening of July 1, officers responded to a shooting call in the 1800 block of N. Amidon after a 36-year-old man flagged down a motorist and reported being shot. Officers contacted the victim, who had a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. He was hospitalized for medical treatment of a serious but non-life-threatening injury.

The investigation revealed the victim and the suspect are known to each other, and got into an argument over money and drugs. Police say during the argument, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fired one shot that struck the victim. The suspect was contacted Wednesday in the 900 block of N. Main and arrested without incident.

The suspect has been previously arrested and convicted on charges including aggravated battery, criminal damage to property,  and criminal possession of a weapon; he is currently on community corrections through the Kansas Department of Corrections.

The case will be presented to the Sedgwick County District Attorney's Office.
