Spirit AeroSystems says they expect to restart productionon the Boeing 737 MAX sometime next month.
In a conference call on Friday, CFO Mark Suchinski says they expect to slowly restart the productin in March, and then gradually ramp it up through the year.
It's expected that as production increases over the next two years, many people who were impacted by recent layoffs, will be able to return to work.
Spirit previously had announced its production plan on the 737 MAX in 2020. However, company leaders stressed on Friday that it still remains contingent on when the jet is able to return to service.
Spirit builds around 70% of the structure on the MAX, a program that accounts for half of its annual revenues.
The aircraft has been grounded since March 2019, following two crashes that killed nearly 350 people. None of the work done in Wichita has been implicated in either crash. However, Boeing-installed software was acknowledged as a contributing factor in each of the crashes.
