The Wichita City Council approved an adjustment of up to $305 thousand to the city's golf fund. This comes after we learned the fund will end the year in the black.

This happened even as city-owned golf courses closed in April and May, which are typically big revenue-generating months. 


Officials say it's hard to pinpoint what improved golf's finances in 2020, especially with the on-going pandemic. The city changed its membership fee structure and also saw increased activity from new or occasional golfers. 

Parks & Rec. Director Troy Houtman told the council their goal will be to retain those customers once life returns to normal.

The city also noted that they are not paying off golf debt and have enacted furloughs.

Nationwide, there have been more rounds played this year as golfers social distance on the course.
