It's being reported that iconic comedian, Paul Mooney has died at the age of 79. The news broke in a tweet from Roland Martin, where he stated, "his cousin, Rudy Ealy, just called me from Paul's phone and said he passed away two hours ago after suffering a heart attack at his home in Oakland."
Born Paul Gladney in Louisiana, Mooney was known for his curt commentary, his standup routines, his time on In Living Color and The Chappelle Show and of course, his time as a writer for Richard Pryor. The proclaimed "Godfather of Comedy" loved his people and always expressed exactly how he felt. Robert Townsend who cast Mooney in his 1987 satire, Hollywood Shuffle expressed, "Paul didn't care to be loved. He wanted to speak his mind. He taught a generation of comedians to be fearless."
From Mooney's official Twitter account, his team wrote, "thank you all from the bottom of all of our hearts ...you're all are the best!...... Mooney World .. The Godfather of Comedy - ONE MOON MANY STARS! .. To all in love with this great man.. many thanks."
