Navy Federal Credit Union recently partnered with Rebuilding Together to renovate the home of an Army veteran in Herndon, Virginia.

Clarence Wells-Martin, 78, began renovations on his home more than 10 years ago but found himself unable to complete the project due to financial constraints.

“These repairs will make it easier for my family and me to go about our daily lives and live safely in our home, and it will also serve our neighborhood and community,” he said. “As a veteran, it’s amazing how you spend time giving to others, and then when you don’t expect it, it comes back to you.”

Eleven NFCU volunteers and 5 Rebuilding Together volunteers plus four Rebuilding Together staffers came together for the project, which included repairs and updates to three bathrooms; replacing screens in 12 windows; removing unwanted items from the yard; clearing the garden; installing non-skid strips on the basement stairs; and installing pot lights in the kitchen.

Rebuilding Together is a non-profit that makes critical home reality pairs and accessibility modifications for low-income homeowners, including veterans.
“It is part of our mission to continue to serve those who have served,” said military spouse and NFCU assistant manager of corporate responsibility Brandi Gomez. “Our team members were quick to roll up their sleeves and lend a hand with such a wonderful organization that helps veterans and their families preserve their homes. Building up communities is part of who we are and how we serve.”

Since partnering with Rebuilding Together over two decades, more than 1,400 Navy Federal volunteers have contributed over 10,000 service hours to Rebuilding Together’s mission, exceeding $380,000 in community impact.
